Nov 29, 2018Hailey Rose Renfroe, 20, of Phil Campbell is charged with aggravated child abuse in the March 22 death of 22-month-old Serenity Irene Renfroe. Her boyfriend, Shannon Dale Gargis, 28, is charged with capital murder.Court records show that Gargis is accused of grabbing Serenity by the throat and throwing her against a couch, causing blunt force trauma to her head. He allegedly laid her on a loveseat and went to bed; Renfroe found the little girl dead on the loveseat when she returned from work the next morning. Renfroe was in court Monday for her preliminary hearing, as well as a motion to reduce her $500,000 bond. Franklin County officials reported that a 911 call came in shortly after 3 a.m. the day of Serenity's death from the couple's home at 411 Railsplitter Road in Phil Campbell. When first responders arrived, they found the little girl's body.Renfroe said she'd found Serenity unresponsive when she returned around 2:30 a.m. that morning from work. During her preliminary hearing Monday morning, Franklin County Sheriff's Office investigator Sgt. Jason Holcomb testified, however, that she waited more than 30 minutes before calling 911. She also allegedly spent time on social media before calling for help for the girl, according to the Times-Daily. "She said she did CPR on the baby, but when deputies got there, the baby was laying on the loveseat, covered up and dead," Holcomb said, according to the newspaper.
